MK 2 Brain

I really wanted to take some weight off the rover, so I’ve researched several options of what could be used for the main controller.  My requirements were:

  1. must be programmable in C
  2. must be able to use public domain libraries and utilities
  3. did not want to create my own from scratch
  4. low power to run on batteries
  5. run a common Linux distribution (like Ubuntu)

After lots of reading and research I opted to use the BeagleBoard.  It is small format, low power consumption, can easily run Ubuntu on it, no moving parts (like hard drives), has USB, video output, etc…

A lot of functionality packed on a very small footprint with lots of on-line support and development tools.
